Description

The count site is along the Lake Superior Coast at Bete Grise, MI, USA. This site has been well-documented to have westward morning flights of Passeriformes, often following westerly winds in the early AM over Lake Superior. The reason for these flights is under active study, but at least partially appears to be a reorientation off of Lake Superior when conditions for completing passage are unfavorable. The westward direction of migrants in both seasons may be a reorientation following over-water wind drift.
