Starr Gate, Blackpool (Lancs, England)
This morning we installed a small blue plaque that commerates the life of seasoned sea watcher at Starr Gate - Len Blacow.
Len had been sea watching from Starr Gate for over forty years and had infected many local birders with the sea watching bug.
He finally hung up his binoculars on 23rd March 2025 and accidentally, but somewhat fittingly, the plaque was installed today on what woudl have been his 77th birthday.
Also fittingly, we had an almost point blank flypast from an Artic Skua and I'd like to think it was one that Len had seen before and it came so close so as to pay its own personal tribute. |
